New car ...
« on: March 21, 2015, 12:30:00 PM »
Well, my old "Rover" decided to cost more than it was worth, so it was time for me to change.

This is my new baby...

Alfa Romeo BRERA 2.4 JTD 200 Skyview

One week to wait until I get it... longest week of my life :P

I love Alfas. I went through a phase from the late 1980's to 1990's when I had nothing else. An Alfetta, an Alfetta GT, two Alfasuds and an Alfasud Sprint Veloce. We were all set to buy a lovely red Mito when we changed our car last time too but out of the blue they only offered us an insulting trade in price on our Cooper S Convertible and we ended up buying a Suzuki SX4 somewhere else.

I'm sure you won't regret buying the Alfa. They're fantastic cars to drive.

Well, after seeing it and driving it, I understand why that specific car won the "most beautiful car of the year" award in 2006...

It's been a long time since I was excited by a car, my Rover was purely "utilitarian", aka a work horse. But that here, is a totally different beast. And that 5 cylinder motor sings a tune that I'm going to enjoy listening to every day. And the "sky view", aka glass roof, is something fantastic too.

I think I'm going to have to find some friends to visit on the long easter week end to have an excuse to drive the car hehe ... :P

Hmm Mero, you are aware there might be a vacancy for somebody to present Top Gear here in the UK? :)

Congrats Mero. Real beauty there! When an Alfa passes, people always look at it. They have a gift at designing cars like none other, just shame you need to take care of them like a little baby ;)

That reminds me that back in the old days they would only run well with a special spark plug that had gold plated electrodes. Needless to say they were expensive, especially as they had to be replaced regularly.

Hopefully, times have moved on.

edit: I was assuming it to be a petrol engined car but JTD is that Turbo Diesel? Anyway I looked up what spark plugs are used nowadays and Alfa switched to Bosch Platinum plugs around five years ago. That actually is the solution I finally found myself all those years ago.

Yeah, it's the 2.4l 200hp 5 cylinder turbo diesel engine.

I'm really not a huge Alfa fan, their design can go from utterly jawdropping to... very "weird".
But in my opinion, the only Alfa more beautiful than a Brera is the "4C", but well, it's not exactly the same league either :P

After seeing the name on some RSS feed at work, I watched some videos...
The guys seems to always have been a misogynistic and racist asshat anyway, so, he reaps what he sow...

A bit like Gordon Ramsay. The only reason Gordon never got his ass handed to him are 1) because the whole show is rigged anyway, it's a scenario, not real and 2) because he's black belt in karate. The definition of a bully. Being talented is no excuse to be an asshat.

New car btw, the Brera is sold...

V6 3.2 240hp. That one is a real monster. And I'm the new best friend of my gas pump attendant.

Congrats mate, looking good but that would be very expensive to keep, with all the fines i would accumulate and the price at the pump, not to mention the emmision levels so i can’t enter the city.. i know it’s poor these days in Antwerp.. traffic jams, fines, taxes. I would almost take the bike, but i just love driving.
We also got a new car since lzst year, very happy so far.

There's "only" 3 hours driving between us, and I love Belgian beers.
We know each other for how long now? Maybe we should arrange a meeting with some mussels, fries and a couple of beers someday.
I'll let you drive the GTV ;)

I'll be at the Grasspop Festival in Dessel on June 22. to see Iron Maiden.

We could meet during the following week end, I intend to stay in Belgium for a couple of days, visiting Bruges, I can make other stops, I'll be with my car, so 100% free to cruise :)
