They haven't even given a release date so it will probably be summer at the earliest before it's available. That's around three years after the original release and far too long to keep my enthusiasm going.

I'll see how I feel nearer the time but it all seems too late at the moment.

I will keep an eye on it - new content in expansion form can be interesting.

PC Gamer magazine has an extensive preview this month. Sounds like they are making some fundamental changes as ground work for future changes in addition to the new content that's coming with the expansion. It's peaked my interest so I will try over the next couple of months to catch up with the storyline and its likely I'll be playing the expansion. Will try to post more about the changes when I have a moment.

Strange time for NCSoft to be laying off their entire customer service department then.

I believe ArenaNet do their customer service separately for GW and GW2 so the Austin team would have been supporting Lineage and the like. According to the article they're outsourcing support to a third party. We'll see how that works out for them, my experience with outsourcing call centre functions hasn't all been positive...

Now that I've read more about it, it will be a day one purchase for me.
The changes made are mostly just what this game needed.

I'm back playing GW2 extremely casually at the moment, along with Elite and Marvel Heroes and enjoying things as is. I'm reserving judgement on the changes until I see them in action. My usual philosophy is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but nothing I've seen from ANet so far fills me with NGE levels of dread.

I haven't been following GW2 at all recently. I'll have to take a look.

I will probably start playing GW2 again, once the expansion goes live.

Shadow and I have been running about in GW2 a bit more in the last couple of weeks catching up on the storyline and crafting ascended gear. I'll definitely be getting the expansion and playing when it's out.

I managed to join a successful kill of the new Tequatl for the first time this weekend just gone, which was an experience . I've also been dabbling a bit in structured PvP, which has been a lot more fun than the equivalent WoW or Rift battlegrounds. Less of a problem with AFK leeches than other games for some reason, and the fights are more challenging than just tabbing to a target and running through a DPS rotation. Had an epic one on one duel between my ranger and an enemy ranger with both of us downed and getting back up at least twice. There was a ridiculous mesmer vs mesmer fight in one match too.

Just seen the reveal of the necromancer elite spec - the reaper. Necromancer is the one class I could never really get the hang of. A greatsword wielding melee necromancer might be more to my taste.

BWAHAHAHA

so Arena net decided that the Heart of Thrones is not actually an expansion. it is a whole new game. well, all maps and content from Gw2 - unaltered - plus the HOT content, but with new accounts. old players start from scratch.

I know jack shit about marketing but... seriously? they thought THAT'S a good plan?

Have you got a link for that? All I can see some people complaining about is the fact that it does include the original game to make it a stand alone expansion for new players and that it costs more than the original game did. I can't find anything that says old players have to start again from scratch though.

It is an expansion - no need to reroll. All the internet drama is coming from the fact that the price for HoT includes the case game. There are people who have only just bought the base game because they'd been led to believe they would need that as well as the expansion so they're feeling (somewhat justifiably) gypped. And then there's the people who bought the base game at launch or soon after who are crying that it just isn't fair that new players will get more value for the same money spent on the expansion than they got, conveniently ignoring the three years of playing the original GW2 that they've had and the new folks won't have had. People in this second category I have very little sympathy for.

Anet have issued a statement about the GW2 expansion pre purchase plans.

That should keep most people happy but of course there are always some people who are never pleased.

The big pre-HoT update landed yesterday. There's a new rebuilt Lions Arch that's worth taking s look at, traits have been reworked into specialisations, conditions now stack to infinity and beyond (well to 1500 stacks) making them useful for group content, and Engineers got some love - there's now a F5 tool belt skill based on your elite skill and the Mortar has been replaced by a mortar kit that gives you a hand-held artillery piece that puts the grenade kit to shame. The F5 skill for mortar kit is called "Orbital Strike" :)

I haven't even had the game installed for at least eighteen months. I'm downloading it now to take a look but I'll have forgotten how to play it. My main is an Engineer though so looking forward to trying the Orbital Strike. I hope it's like the Archeage Meteor strike which was a massive AOE attack.

And apparently Anet have already needed the mortar kit damage to below that of grenades (albeit with longer range) Probably needed it, I was laying waste to grawl in Frostgorge Sound last night, and every engineer I saw was spamming mortar shells right, left and centre.

One tip - don't try the LA karka Safari unless you handle frustration well. 6 down, 44 to go...

Just been catching up with the news about the Expansion.  I will very likely be getting it and returning to Tyrian.

Nice one Breg also doing the same as well so with Sick and Carl getting it we hopefully can get together for some new GW2 like the old days ;)
