General Discussion / Re: Conan Exiles and Dark and Light
« on: February 05, 2017, 09:58:27 PM »
I see my name mentioned 😊

I'm using an oculus.rift to play Elite Dangerous, but not No mans Sky (sorry if I misinformed elsewhere). I love E:D in VR, it's much more immersive and makes flying much more intuitive. The only problem for me with E:D is the content. It still feels like a solo game and I come back to it for periods after new content arrives or when I was pushing to get an Anaconda. I've travelled to Colonia and waiting for something to happen. I don't wear glasses so can't really inform your considerations. I tried wearing a pair of sunglasses and the frame did not impede the rift headset or make it feel less comfortable.

Giving Conan Exile a go and it's holding my interest for now. Hope this one has legs.

Everquest Next Landmark / Re: Landmark Closing Next Month
« on: January 11, 2017, 09:30:39 PM »
It's sad news. The voxel/building stuff was great I thought. Bizarrely, even though it was bit grindy, I liked the gathering/mining bit too. Unfortunately, it never progressed beyond that which is a huge shame. I'll be wary with early access too from now on, although I've also invested in Star Citizen   ???

I'm still around. Playing a combo of No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous (which has a new lease of life due to an Rift headset).

Curiouser and curiouser.....

https://forums.daybreakgames.com/landmark/index.php?threads/landmark-launching-spring-2016.56141/

The announcement that Everquest Next Landmark is finally going to be "released"! I wonder if its all a little too late. Those that would have been into this game from the start have probably been put off by the Sony/Daybreak shenanigans and the long period with little happening. I might have a play at "release" but can't see it holding my interest for more than a couple of weeks.

I've taken the plunge and bought a copy in the sales. Starting with V1.11 so guess any bugs were ironed out ages ago. Looking forward to playing this after everything that has been said about it over the last few months. See it is PC Gamer's best singleplayer game of 2015.

General Discussion / Re: Elite Dangerous: Horizons Expansion
« on: December 01, 2015, 09:48:41 PM »
OK, tried the Horizons beta tonight for the first time. Took my Asp to Sol, landed at M Gorbachev and got kitted out with planetary approach suite (or whatever its called) and an SRV hanger and vehicle and then took the well trodden route to Europa (Jupiter) and Enceladus (Saturn). Fairly seamless transition from interplanetary space to entering the atmosphere around the moons and then descending to the surface. The HUDs change as you go, to suit the new environment and then it was my first gentle touch down. The SRV is easy to deploy and then it was time to rally. First I had to set up the controls for the SRV but that didn't take long and then I was off, bouncy along in the low G environment and taking off on the hillocks. Great fun. Not been to any bases yet though I could see a few in the distance as I chose a crater to land in. If you've got E:D and paid for the expansion. Then get downloading and have a go. It does add a new dimension and it will definitely pull me back into E:D during December and after release.

Yeah I'm looking forward this. I have pre-purchased so will have the beta access and hoping that it draws me back into the game. If it's good enough I might even get me a HOTAS set up. Although, I may pause on that one until the VR headsets are out and it's apparent what the best control set ups are. Meantime it's more GW2 & SWTOR.

Swtor Discussion / Knights of the Fallen Empire
« on: September 24, 2015, 04:24:24 PM »
Is anyone returning to SWTOR to have a look at this? The one thing I thought SWTOR did well with was the cinematic story telling when getting to level 50. Then it all went a little grindy. The expansions since have added to this a bit. I'm nearly at the end of the Hutt Cartel stuff with Shadow of Revan to follow. However, with Knights of the Fallen Empire it looks like this game is returning to its story telling greatness. Does anyone else think so? Anyone else coming back for a look?

Always feel sorry though when a game goes under and all those that devoted time and effort to it are left to move on. Maybe I'm just a sentimental old fool  :'(

The way I see it, that time and effort people devoted was fun enough when they did it, and they can't take that away from you. If it wasn't fun at the time, why the hell play a game? It's not as if any of us get paid to...

A fair point.

I think I gave it a go once in beta and then followed the general advice and never went back again. Always feel sorry though when a game goes under and all those that devoted time and effort to it are left to move on. Maybe I'm just a sentimental old fool  :'(

Great news Breg. Will be doing likewise and have pre-ordered the expansion.

It wasn't me declining, honest. I saw the invite and clicked on accept them couldn't figure out why you were not on my friends list. So then I invited you and you immediately declined so there is a bug in there somewhere. Anyhow we seem to sorted it out now. See you in game soon.

Shadow and I have been running about in GW2 a bit more in the last couple of weeks catching up on the storyline and crafting ascended gear. I'll definitely be getting the expansion and playing when it's out.

Ha ha! I logged on at the weekend as the update came out and joined the land grab. I've ditched the temple and started working on a Mexican style hacienda. There have been significant changes, my favourite of which is unlimited basic materials such as stone & sand for building with. It's also quicker to amass wood. Only been as far as tier two caves before I got distracted by building. Can't remember which island I'm on so will post that later. We'll need to reform the guild as that was wiped along with our characters. I'm not sure that there is sufficient change to the content though to attract peril who weren't already attracted by the prospect of building stuff.

I'm on Satisfaction/Ancient Crag across the water to the South West of the portal.

Yay, I got me a Clipper!!

Now to save up for a new Asp. I'm going to kit this one out for deep space mining - see if i can go far enough to get away from pirates (and whether its cost effective enough).
